SHAWANO, WI – Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff is reminding residents that the holiday season can be an especially difficult time for many families. Musolff says financial pressures around Christmas, paired with seasonal depression, can heighten tensions inside the home. He notes that long stretches of cold weather often keep families cooped up indoors, which can intensify stress and increase the likelihood of conflict.
Musolff encourages families to seek help early if tensions begin to escalate, emphasizing that local support services are available before situations become dangerous. “Safe Haven and other counseling services are out there,” he said, adding that numerous mental health resources exist to support families during the winter months.
The chief says officers never want to separate families during the holidays and hopes residents will reach out for assistance if they feel overwhelmed.
