OCONTO COUNTY, WI – Oconto County Fairest of the Fair Josie Holtz is preparing for this year’s Oconto County Youth Fair while sharing how her own agricultural background is helping shape her future.
Holtz recently joined WTCH’s The Breakfast Club and talked about her experience growing up around the fair and her plans as a student at UW-Green Bay.
“I’m at UWGB this year. I’m following my dream in electrical engineering,” Holtz said. “I have grown up in the fair, so a lot of my background is ag, which is something that I wanted to do with my electrical engineering degree.”
As Fairest of the Fair, Holtz is also encouraging the community to spend time visiting the livestock exhibits and supporting the young people who have spent months preparing their animals for competition.
“A lot of our exhibitors work so hard throughout the year, and it is such a great thing to have them come in and show their animal and be judged by what they present,” Holtz said.
Holtz knows that work firsthand after spending plenty of time in the show ring herself. Her experience as an exhibitor gives her an opportunity to promote not only the fair, but also the dedication that goes into preparing an animal for competition.
The Oconto County Youth Fair begins August 22 for animal exhibitors, with fair activities continuing through August 30.
