Shawano County Youth Exhibitor Reflects on State Fair Success Ahead of Final County Fair

WEST ALLIS, WI – Shawano County youth exhibitors are returning home from the Wisconsin State Fair with several top honors after representing the county in a wide range of competitions.

A total of 18 Shawano County dairy youth brought 31 animals to the State Fair.

Among those representing the county was Madisyn Weinig, who capped off her State Fair experience with success in the rabbit barn. Last Sunday, one of Weinig’s Polish rabbits earned the top prize in the open show, adding another accomplishment as she approaches the end of her youth showing career.

With the upcoming Shawano County Fair marking her final time showing as a youth, Weinig said the moment comes with plenty of emotions.

“It’s something that is super exciting, but also it definitely has a lot of emotions that come along with it,”Weinig said.

Weinig was one of three Shawano County rabbit exhibitors competing at the State Fair. Kenley Wilson also had a strong showing, finishing fifth overall and earning Supreme Champion honors with a bred-and-owned ewe.

Weinig said she made a point to step away from her own competition when possible to support fellow Shawano County exhibitors.

“I was able to sneak away from my show to go watch dairy every once in a while,” Weinig said, adding that seeing a Shawano County exhibitor earn the Supreme Heifer honor was especially exciting.

Logan Harbaugh also represented Shawano County and earned first place in the Dairy Communication Contest.

The State Fair experience provided local youth an opportunity to showcase the work they have put into their animals while competing alongside exhibitors from across Wisconsin.

For Weinig, attention now turns toward one more milestone. She will prepare for her final year as a youth exhibitor at the Shawano County Fair in September, bringing an accomplished showing career closer to its conclusion.
