UPDATE: Victim Identified In Fatal Vehicle Crash


TOWN OF NAVARINO, WI – The Wisconsin State Patrol has identified the woman who died in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning in Shawano County as 89-year-old Sandra J. Scheller of Nichols.

According to the State Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 11:45 a.m. on August 10 on Navarino Road, south of WIS 156, in the Town of Navarino near Clintonville.

Preliminary investigation indicates Scheller was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox south on Navarino Road when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the east ditch, and overturned.

Troopers and other first responders removed Scheller from the vehicle and performed lifesaving measures, but she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Patrol reported Scheller was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. No enforcement action is anticipated.

The Wisconsin State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

An 89-year-old woman from the Nichols area died Monday after a single-vehicle crash in Shawano County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 11:44 a.m. on Navarino Road in the Town of Navarino, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle was traveling south on Navarino Road when it drifted across the center line and entered the east ditch. The vehicle then struck a field access and overturned, landing on its roof.

The driver remained inside the vehicle until emergency responders arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shawano County sheriff’s deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers responded to the crash.

The Navarino-Lessor Fire Department and EMS, Clintonville Ambulance and ThedaStar also assisted at the scene.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is leading the crash investigation. Authorities have not released the woman’s name, saying the investigation remains ongoing.
