KESHENA, WI- Menominee Nation High School has announced it is discontinuing its football program, effective immediately.
School officials say the decision came after discussions with players, coaches, school leadership, district administration and MISD Board members.
According to the school, football participation has steadily declined over the past several years, making it increasingly difficult to sustain a safe, competitive and successful program.
Officials say the decision was not made lightly and recognize the disappointment it may bring to current students, families, alumni and the Menominee community.
The school says its primary responsibility is making decisions that best serve students both now and in the future. After evaluating student participation, program sustainability and available resources, officials determined discontinuing football was the most responsible decision for player safety.
While the decision ends the Eagle football program, the school says it plans to explore other athletic opportunities that better reflect student interests and participation.
Menominee Nation High School says it remains committed to providing safe, positive and inclusive athletic opportunities for students and strengthening its overall athletic offerings.
School officials also expressed gratitude to the student-athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents, boosters and community members who have been part of Eagle football over the years.
The school says their dedication and commitment have left a lasting legacy and will remain an important part of Menominee Nation High School’s history.
