NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The BABA Northern Division delivered plenty of offense over the past two weeks, with Eland continuing to establish itself as one of the league’s hottest teams while Birnamwood, Aniwa, and Antigo Polar all picked up key victories.
Week 12
Eland 22, Hatley 7
Eland erupted for 20 hits in a 22-7 rout of Hatley on July 24. Ryan Richter had one of the biggest offensive performances of the summer, going 4-for-5 with three home runs and a double, while Jacob Ligenza collected five hits and Tyler Nelson earned the win on the mound.
Elderon 13, Antigo 5
Elderon also enjoyed a productive night, defeating Antigo Polar 13-5 behind a balanced 16-hit attack. Justin Meronk led the way with three hits and two doubles, while Thomas Lemanczyk picked up the victory.
Aniwa 7, Crandon 1
On Sunday, July 26, Aniwa closed out the week with a convincing 7-1 win over Crandon. Denton Mortenson earned the win as Jayden Karcz collected three hits, while Gavin Steppert, Kody Szews, Ryan Govek, Max Kasprak and Cory Mortenson each added two hits in the victory.
Week 13
Birnamwood 13, Aniwa 4
Birnamwood opened Week 13 by handing Aniwa a 13-4 loss. The visitors pounded out 15 hits, led by Logan Thiex’s three-hit performance and home run from Bryce Heil. Chris Wiseman had three hits for Aniwa in the loss.
Eland 11, Elderon 8 (10 inn)
The marquee matchup of the week came in Elderon, where Eland remained red-hot with an 11-8 victory in 10 innings. Jeremy Jensen powered the offense with a home run and double, Peyton Flees and Jarod Richter also homered, while Ryan Richter and Tyler Nelson combined for seven hits. Luke Mandich earned the extra-inning victory as Eland improved its impressive late-season run.
Antigo Polar rounded out the week with a dominant 14-1 win over Crandon.
EAST AND WEST DIVISION WEEK 12 AND WEEK 13 RECAPS
Clintonville A’s 9, Menominee Indians 2
The Clintonville A’s rode a dominant pitching performance from Jaden Doornink to a 9-2 victory over the Menominee Indians. Doornink tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four before Menominee broke through late. Offensively, Andy Lederer and Austin Hoffman each collected two hits, while Matthew Morse drove in two runs. Austin Peters led the Indians with two doubles in the loss.
Marion Meisters 10, Shawano Lakers 0 (7 innings)
The Marion Meisters needed just seven innings to blank the Shawano Lakers 10-0 behind Jared Sonnenberg’s complete-game effort. Ryan Mortensen led Marion’s offense with three hits, while Sonnenberg added two hits, including a double. Hayden Miller also chipped in two hits as the Meisters’ offense stayed hot throughout the afternoon. Shawano managed just three hits, including a double by Riley Dixon.
Leopolis Bulldogs 6, Tigerton Tigers 5
Leopolis walked off Tigerton in one of the weekend’s best games, as Ryan Malueg blasted a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 victory. Malueg finished with two hits, including a double and the decisive homer, while Jackson Krohn added three hits. Jaden Stuhr earned the complete-game win, striking out 14 over nine innings. Tigerton’s Austin Hoffmann collected three hits in the tough-luck loss.
Caroline Cougars 13, Tilleda Woodchucks 3 (8 innings)
Caroline’s offense exploded for 13 runs in an eight-inning victory over Tilleda. Cole Rosenow had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and three RBIs. Dylan Danforth added three hits and two RBIs, while Klay Barkow drove in three more runs. Jack Yaeger earned the win on the mound, striking out five over six innings.
Little Falls Loggers 12, Wittenberg Pilots 7
Little Falls outslugged Wittenberg 12-7 thanks to a balanced offensive attack. Kal Fischer reached base five times with three hits, two doubles and two walks, while Spencer Strebe delivered the big blow with a three-run homer. Kyle Finger added two doubles as the Loggers piled up extra-base hits. Wittenberg got a triple from Nate Waupekenay and a home run from James Thompson but couldn’t overcome a nine-run outing by Little Falls early in the game.
