CLINTONVILLE, WI – Schutt Industries officially broke ground on a major expansion project this week that company leaders say will position the military trailer manufacturer for future growth while creating new jobs in Clintonville.
The project includes a 90,600-square-foot addition to the company’s existing facility that will expand its assembly and paint operations, allowing more room for welding and production in the current building.
Vice President Steve Schutt said the expansion is the result of years of planning and continued growth.
“We’ve started with a lot of projects that have evolved over these last several years, and the need for an expansion became evident. It’s great for the community, for us, and for all the stakeholders that have been putting the time and effort in to get to this point,” Schutt said.

Schutt Industries is known for manufacturing military trailers and support equipment used by the U.S. military.
“If it’s a trailer behind a military vehicle, we likely build it,” Schutt said. “Trailers of all sizes, from single axle to tri-axle trailers for heavy equipment, construction equipment, armored vehicles, water transport, generators and power transport.”
Construction is being managed by Alliance Construction and Design, which has been working with Schutt Industries on the project since late 2024.

Project Manager Derek Wegner said months of planning have led to this week’s groundbreaking, with work scheduled to begin almost immediately.
“We’ve been working with Schutt Industries since November of 2024, and we’ve finally come to the point we’re at today with the groundbreaking ceremony,” Wegner said. “Next week we’ll be starting excavation, and the project is expected to wrap up around the end of May.”
At the height of construction, Wegner said between 20 and 30 workers could be on-site each day. Excavation alone is expected to take about 40 working days, with crews moving across the property in phases while concrete work begins behind them.
“Things will be overlapping each other to speed up the process,” Wegner said. “Concrete will start being poured near the end of August.”
Schutt said the expansion will also bring new employment opportunities as the company grows.
“There will definitely be more jobs in the coming years,” he said. “We’re intending to hire for assembly, welding and paint positions as we get the expansion up and running.”
The company expects to occupy the new building by April of next year, with full operations anticipated during the April-to-May timeframe.
Company officials say the expansion represents a significant investment in both Schutt Industries’ future and the Clintonville community, providing additional manufacturing capacity while creating skilled employment opportunities in the region.
