NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters planning to participate in this year’s Hunters with Disabilities Gun Deer Hunt to confirm their hunting location by Sept. 15.
The annual hunt will take place Oct. 3-11, with nearly 70,000 acres of private land enrolled across 47 Wisconsin counties to provide hunting opportunities for eligible participants.
To take part in the program, hunters must contact a participating landowner or sponsoring organization directly to reserve a hunting location. Participants are also required to have a valid disabled hunting permit and a gun deer hunting license before taking part in the hunt.
The DNR is also highlighting a change for this year’s event. On Oct. 10 and 11, which coincides with Wisconsin’s Youth Deer Hunt weekend, eligible hunters with disabilities may hunt statewide on public lands or on private lands where they have permission, even if those properties are not enrolled in the Hunters with Disabilities program.
The DNR encourages hunters to finalize their plans well before the Sept. 15 deadline to ensure they have a confirmed hunting location.
