Death Following New London Apartment Fire Now Considered Suspicious

NEW LONDON, WI – New London Police say the investigation into a deadly apartment fire Sunday afternoon has taken a new turn, with the death of one occupant now being investigated as suspicious.

Officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the Franklin Park Apartments, located at 505 Division Street, at approximately 2:37 p.m. Sunday after reports of a fire.

When crews arrived, they located one occupant deceased inside the apartment building.

Police said investigators have since taken one person into custody in connection with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of either the deceased individual or the person in custody.

Several residents were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The New London Police Department says the investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released at this time.
