Lynn Tank Agency Reopens as New London Continues Recovery from Historic Flooding

NEW LONDON, WI – Another milestone in New London’s recovery from April’s historic flooding was celebrated this week as Lynn Tank Agency officially reopened its doors after being closed for nearly two months.

Just Before Ribbon Cutting

City Administrator Chad Hoerth said the reopening is another sign of how far the community has come since floodwaters forced businesses to shut down and residents scrambled to protect homes and property.

“Seeing what we experienced back then to seeing what some of our businesses have improved on now, it’s just heartwarming to see,” Hoerth said.

He said many businesses have not only reopened but have rebuilt and returned stronger than before.

Hoerth credited the determination of local business owners and the support of the community for making the recovery possible.

“The reopening is a testament to the resilience of our local business owners and the demonstration of our entire community,” he said.

That community spirit was evident during the height of the flooding when hundreds of volunteers stepped up to help protect downtown New London.

“People just lined up and they started one in the downtown, and they sandbagged the entire downtown,” Hoerth said. “That saved a lot of businesses.”

According to Hoerth, volunteers filled and placed more than 55,000 sandbags throughout the city, helping protect neighborhoods, businesses and critical infrastructure as floodwaters rose.
