SHAWANO, WI- The long-awaited renovation of the Shawano Recreation Center is nearing the finish line, with city officials preparing to welcome the public back into the updated facility.
Shawano City Clerk Leslie Nemitz says crews are continuing to work toward reopening the building in the coming weeks, with the goal of having the facility available to the public by mid-August. “We are still working really hard towards that goal of being open to the public by mid-August,” Nemitz said.
While residents will soon be able to use the renovated facility, the city is also planning a formal celebration. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and public open house are scheduled for September 12th, giving community members a chance to tour the improvements and see the completed project.
Shawano City Administrator Eddie Shepard says the renovations will provide residents with a modern recreation facility that will serve the community for years to come. “We’re hoping to get some people in there, start doing tours now that it’s a safe work zone, but I think the community is really going to enjoy what this is and the size of it,” Shepard said.
The project represents one of the largest investments in community recreation in recent years and includes upgrades designed to enhance aquatics, fitness and recreational opportunities.
City officials say the improvements will create a more functional and welcoming space for residents of all ages while continuing to serve as a hub for community activities.
The Shawano Recreation Center is expected to reopen to the public in mid-August, with the official celebration planned for September 12th.
