NEW LONDON, WI – Drivers traveling through New London will encounter another traffic change beginning next week as construction continues on the Highway 54 corridor.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced that the north half of the intersection of Highway 54 and County D/North Shawano Street will be closed for approximately 28 days, beginning Sunday, July 20, at 6 a.m.
The closure is expected to remain in place through August 16, although the schedule is dependent on weather conditions and construction progress.
Despite the closure, Highway 54 will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic throughout the project. WisDOT also noted that U.S. 45 and the U.S. 45/County D roundabout have reopened, providing motorists with access through the area while work continues.
Officials say no posted detour will be in place during the intersection closure.
The work is part of the ongoing Highway 54 construction project in New London, and motorists are encouraged to slow down, remain alert for workers and equipment, and allow extra travel time when passing through the construction zone.
