Shawano Police Increase Patrols at Mountain Bay Trail Depot Following Vandalism

SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano Police Department is increasing its presence around the Mountain Bay Trail Depot after recent incidents of vandalism and other inappropriate activity at the popular trail stop.

Police Chief Mike Musolff says the depot, which was built to serve walkers, runners, cyclists and other trail users, has recently become the target of vandalism and loitering.

“Some of the things that have been going on in there have been drinking alcohol, damaging the property with different ways of things that we just don’t want happening there,” Musolff said.

Musolff is reminding residents that the depot is intended to be a safe, welcoming facility for those enjoying the Mountain Bay Trail and is asking everyone to respect the property so it remains available for public use.

To help deter further problems, the department has stepped up patrols and is actively monitoring the area.

“We have been monitoring it by camera remotely, and when there’s things going on that we don’t think should be there, we head down there and make sure that we take care of that problem,” Musolff said.

The chief is also asking for the community’s assistance in protecting the facility.

Anyone who witnesses vandalism, suspicious behavior, or people loitering around the Mountain Bay Trail Depot is encouraged to contact the Shawano Police Department immediately so officers can respond quickly.

Musolff says community involvement is an important part of keeping the Mountain Bay Trail Depot safe, clean and accessible for everyone who uses the trail.
