OCONTO COUNTY, WI – Oconto County is continuing its search for a new district attorney following the appointment of former District Attorney Hannah Schuchart to the Branch One Circuit Court judgeship earlier this year.
Governor Tony Evers is now accepting applications on a rolling basis after an earlier application deadline passed without the vacancy being filled. The governor’s office says applications will continue to be accepted until a candidate is selected.
The person appointed will serve the remainder of the current term, which runs through January 2029.
Schuchart was appointed to the bench after the retirement of longtime Circuit Court Judge Michael Judge. She had served as Oconto County District Attorney since 2022 before being selected to fill the judicial vacancy.
The governor’s office is encouraging qualified attorneys interested in serving as Oconto County’s next district attorney to apply. Application materials are available through Gov. Evers’ official website under the “Apply to Serve” section.
Once appointed, the new district attorney will oversee criminal prosecutions and represent the State of Wisconsin in Oconto County until the current term expires in January 2029.
