GILLETT, WI – A man charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a retired police officer in Oconto County has been convicted.
Thirty-four-year-old Obilio Sergento Roblero pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count of hit-and-run involving death in connection with the October 25, 2024, crash that killed Thomas Roberts.
According to investigators, Roberts had stopped along Shawano County Line Road to help two stranded UTV riders whose vehicle had broken down. Authorities say Roberts had connected a tow strap between his ATV and the disabled UTV when he was struck by an SUV traveling westbound.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Following an investigation, authorities tracked Sergento Roblero to a hotel in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he was arrested.
Thomas Roberts, a retired police officer, died as a result of the crash.
Sergento Roblero is scheduled to be sentenced on September 8.
