SHAWANO, WI- Shawano County officials say a tornado siren activated at 5:03 p.m. Thursday was sounded in error and apologized for any confusion. Officials said a weather spotter reported a possible funnel cloud, prompting staff to activate the warning system before an official tornado warning had been issued. The county’s policy is to sound tornado sirens whenever a tornado warning is issued anywhere in Shawano County. Officials said they would rather err on the side of caution than miss an opportunity to warn residents of potentially dangerous weather.
