NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Several area teams delivered impressive performances during Week 7 of BABA baseball action, highlighted by offensive fireworks from Birnamwood, Clintonville and Marion.
Kings Roll Past Crandon
The Birnamwood Kings needed less than six innings to complete a dominant 19-1 victory over Crandon on Friday before lightning and rain forced the game to be called in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mason Meverden earned the win on the mound to improve to 3-1, while the Kings’ offense erupted for 20 hits. Tommy Gagnon led the attack by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Grant Praslowicz added two doubles, while Zandyr Barke and Mason Meverden each collected three hits. Connor Meverden also contributed three hits as Birnamwood overwhelmed the Kentucks from start to finish.
Crandon managed just two hits in the contest, including a double from Trent Palibucki.
Wittenberg’s Waupekenay Throws No-Hitter
Wittenberg’s Nathan Waupekenay tossed a five-inning no-hitter Friday night as the Pilots defeated Leopolis 3-0 in a game shortened by severe weather.
Pierson Potrykus led the Pilots at the plate with two hits, while Noah Cole, Zach Urquhart and Erik Steigerwald each added hits. Leopolis was held without a hit in the rain-shortened contest.
Clintonville Outslugs Gresham
The Clintonville A’s outlasted the Gresham Gophers 17-12 on Sunday in one of the highest-scoring games of the weekend.
Aaron Hoffman had a perfect day at the plate, finishing 5-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Turner Doornink added a home run and four RBIs, while James Mutchie collected three hits and two RBIs. Hunter Vollmer chipped in with two RBIs as Clintonville piled up 17 runs.
For Gresham, Crew Weisnicht drove in three runs, Mike Pecore hit a three-run homer, and Treyvon Granquist added two doubles and two RBIs.
Marion Continues Strong Season
The Marion Meisters continued their impressive season with a 13-5 victory over the Menominee Indians.
Kaden Jueds paced the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance. Blake Weatherwax, Nick Schoen and Jarred Sonnenberg each recorded multiple hits, while Hudson Miller earned the win on the mound.
Menominee was led by Pete O’Kimosh and Quinn Gauthier, who each collected two hits in the loss.
New London Powers Past Caroline
The New London Irish put together a strong offensive showing in a 19-10 win over Caroline.
Austin Warren delivered the biggest hit of the game with a grand slam and five RBIs. Ethan Bergen drove in two runs, while Aiden Kanaman and Colby Schmude also contributed offensively.
Caroline’s offense was led by Jared Cartwright, who went 4-for-5, while Klay Finger blasted a grand slam and finished with seven RBIs.
Other Results
In Northern Division action, Eland outslugged Aniwa 14-11 behind home runs from Jeremy Jensen, Jared Richter and Jacob Ligenza. Chris Wiesman hit two home runs for Aniwa in the loss.
Elderon needed extra innings to edge Hatley 4-3 as Brandon Groshek delivered a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Plover defeated Tigerton 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Josh Opiola, while Little Falls knocked off Tilleda 7-2 behind eight strong innings from Carter Kurki.
Scandinavia earned an 8-3 victory over Weymont on Friday night as Ben Lee and Logan Moe each collected three hits to lead the Vikings.
