CLINTONVILLE, WI – The Clintonville A’s are putting the finishing touches on what organizers hope will be their biggest Fourth of July fireworks celebration yet.
Organizer John Fietsch said planning has been underway for months, and thanks to strong community support, this year’s display is expected to be larger than ever before.
“Our biggest display yet. We’re not quite set with our funding. We have surpassed what we’ve done in the past. We look to ramp it up for this year. We’re in a good spot to do that and really hoping for a great turnout,” Fietsch said.
The annual celebration serves as both a community event and a fundraiser for the Clintonville Athletic Club. Fietsch said proceeds from food sales throughout the evening help support local baseball programs and provide opportunities for young athletes in the Clintonville area.
The festivities begin well before the fireworks with a special 12U youth baseball game at Don Jirschele Stadium. Fietsch said the game gives younger players a unique opportunity to experience playing on a larger field typically reserved for older athletes.
“It’s kind of the end of their season and at that age they don’t play on a smaller field, so this is their opportunity to get on the quote-unquote the big field,” Fietsch said.
To accommodate the younger players, organizers adjust the field by moving the bases and pitching mound to create an age-appropriate playing experience.
Fietsch said the youth game has become a favorite part of the evening and provides a memorable experience for players and families before the fireworks begin.
The Clintonville A’s Fourth of July celebration takes place July 3 at Don Jirschele Stadium, with the fireworks show scheduled to begin around 9:45 p.m.
