SHAWANO, WI – Organizers are celebrating another successful Sun Drop Dayz after what they say was one of the largest turnouts in the festival’s history.
Sun Drop Dayz Committee President Brad Keuschel said crowds remained strong throughout the weekend despite periods of challenging weather, helping generate support for several local nonprofit organizations that benefit from the annual event.
“We had people rolling in and we were busy all afternoon,” Keuschel said. “So we had a good crowd there Friday, raised some money for our nonprofits.”
Keuschel said attendance continued to grow on Saturday, resulting in what may have been the biggest crowd the festival has ever seen.
“Saturday was another record-breaking year,” he said. “We had probably our biggest crowd we’ve ever had.”
Funds raised during the festival support several local organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Francis Church, SAFPARC and other community groups that help make the event possible each year.
The large crowds did not create major public safety concerns, according to Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff.
“We had really no law enforcement issues on site,” Musolff said.
Musolff noted that while police did respond to some incidents elsewhere in the city during the weekend, those situations were unrelated to Sun Drop Dayz activities.
“Unfortunately, there were some at the park, but it had nothing to do with Sun Drop Dayz,” Musolff said.
The annual festival has become one of Shawano’s signature summer events, drawing thousands of visitors for live entertainment, food, beverages, family activities and community fundraising efforts.
With another successful year in the books, organizers say the strong attendance and continued community support demonstrate why Sun Drop Dayz remains one of the area’s most anticipated annual celebrations.
