SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – The organizers behind Shawano County’s annual Ball of the Badges fundraiser have announced the formation of a new nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting local first responders.
Behind the Badge Incorporated was officially established in April and will serve law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS providers and other first responder organizations throughout the community.
Organizers say creating the nonprofit will allow proceeds generated through the Ball of the Badges to be directed more efficiently toward helping agencies address equipment, training and other organizational needs. The group will also take over planning responsibilities for the annual event, while continuing to work closely with Safe Haven as a community partner.
The Ball of the Badges has become a signature community event that recognizes and supports first responders across Shawano County. With the creation of Behind the Badge Incorporated, organizers hope to expand the impact the fundraiser has on local agencies and the people who serve them.
Planning is already underway for this year’s Ball of the Badges, which is scheduled for Nov. 13 at North Star Mohican Casino Resort. The 2026 event will feature a red carpet theme, celebrating first responders and their contributions to the community.
As part of the evening, award recipients will be given the opportunity to direct a $1,000 donation to an organization of their choice, further extending the event’s charitable impact throughout the region.
