SHAWANO COUNTY, WI- The Shawano County Highway Department has begun a resurfacing project on County Highway M, with work expected to continue through June 20.
The project covers approximately 1.75 miles of roadway from the State Highway 29 overpass west to Maple Avenue. According to Shawano County Highway Commissioner Grant Bystol, crews began work Monday with pulverizing operations to prepare the roadway for resurfacing.
“We’ll be resurfacing a portion of County M from the State Highway 29 overpass west to Maple Avenue,” Bystol said. “It’s about a 1.75-mile resurfacing project.”
The roadway will be closed during daytime working hours but reopened each evening once crews have completed their work for the day. A signed detour is in place for through traffic.
The detour directs westbound motorists on County M to travel south on Rosebrook Road to State Highway 22 before reconnecting with County M via Friendship and Capital roads.
Bystol said the temporary closures are necessary to protect both workers and motorists.
“It’s just for safety of crews and operations,” he said. “Sometimes it will be closed for our prepping operations.”
Residents who live within the construction zone will continue to have access to their homes throughout the project. Highway Department staff have also been notifying property owners when crews expect to be working directly in front of driveways so residents can plan accordingly.
Emergency vehicles and school buses will continue to be allowed through the work zone, although drivers are asked to remain alert and yield to construction crews.
Officials encourage motorists to follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling near the construction area.
