SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – The proposed Shawano County courthouse and government facility project continues progressing through the planning and engineering process as county officials prepare for the next phase of development.
During Wednesday’s Shawano County Board meeting, Kurt Berner of the Samuels Group updated supervisors on the status of the project, including ongoing engineering reviews and planning work tied to the future courthouse and jail facility.
“This meets the justice center requirements that you have to be recommended with the ability to utilize the newest portion of your jail,” Berner told supervisors.
Berner says the project is continuing to move toward the bidding phase, with the first round of bid documents expected to be released by mid-August.
County supervisors also received an update regarding public parking plans connected to the proposed government facility site. During the discussion, Berner referenced current site plans that still include the location of the Veterans Memorial.
“Is parking adequate? This site planner, it still shows you that Veterans Memorial is where that is located,” Berner said.
County Board Chairman Tom Kautza noted during the meeting that the future of the Veterans Memorial will continue to be discussed during upcoming meetings, including whether the memorial could remain in its current location or potentially be relocated as part of the overall project.
County officials say residents can continue following project updates and planning information online through the county’s master planning website at ShawanoCountyMasterPlanning.com.
