Shawano Police were kept busy through the Memorial Day holiday with a string of incidents ranging from an OWI arrest to suspicious activity and disorderly conduct calls across the city.
Just before 2 a.m. officers responded to the 100 block of South Franklin Street for an OWI investigation. Police were also called to Walmart on East Green Bay Street multiple times during the day. Early Monday morning, callers reported people lighting fireworks and pushing shopping carts with vehicles in the parking lot. Later, officers investigated a theft involving an EBT card reportedly used for an online Walmart purchase without permission.
Animal complaints also kept officers occupied. One caller reported a dog left panting inside a parked SUV at Walmart, while another resident said a stray dog jumped into their vehicle and appeared injured and bleeding.
Monday evening brought several suspicious activity calls, including reports of a vehicle dropping explosives on Ridlington Avenue, leaving burn marks in the roadway.
Police also responded to reports of harassment at Memorial Park, reckless driving near Culver’s, property damage on East Lieg Avenue, and a disorderly conduct complaint involving a man allegedly attempting to fight occupants of a vehicle after asking for a ride.
And shortly after midnight Monday, officers investigated a domestic disturbance on East Richmond Street after a caller reported hearing a woman screaming for help inside an apartment building.
Clintonville Police were busy on Memorial Day with a wide range of calls for service across the city. Officers conducted multiple business checks overnight and during the late evening hours along South Main Street, 4th Street, West Madison Street, and County Highway I. Foot patrols were also reported downtown near South Main and East 12th Streets.
Police handled several traffic-related incidents during the day, including radar enforcement, multiple traffic stops, a disabled vehicle on 11th Street, and a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of West Madison and South Main shortly after 3 p.m.
Other calls included an animal complaint near North Main and 16th Streets, a stray animal report on Garfield Avenue, ordinance violations on 10th Street and South Main Street, and welfare checks on 6th Street and Industrial Avenue.
Officers also responded to a 911 call on North 12th Street, lockout complaints on North Main and Spring Streets, and open door calls on East 3rd Street and Industrial Avenue.
Extra patrols were conducted at Pickerel Point Playground, Picnic Point, and Memorial Circle as part of routine community policing efforts.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office handled 39 incidents across the county on Monday, May 25th, ranging from traffic complaints and welfare checks to fireworks and reckless driving calls.
One of the early morning incidents involved a traffic violation on County Highway HH just before 2 a.m. Deputies requested a K-9 unit from Oconto County and detained two individuals during the investigation.
Throughout the day, deputies responded to multiple disabled vehicles, including flat tires along Highway 45 near Bluebird Road and Red Oak Lane, and another vehicle that stalled near County Highway G and Gollnow Road.
Several welfare checks were also reported. In Bonduel, a caller became concerned after an elderly neighbor who normally maintained his lawn had not been seen recently and wasn’t answering the door. Another welfare check in the Cecil area involved similar concerns about an elderly man whose property appeared neglected.
Deputies also investigated reports of threatening behavior tied to a family dispute over ashes at a Shawano address on County Highway A.
Fireworks complaints kept officers busy. One caller near County Highway MMM reported large fireworks being set off in a ditch that shook the caller’s vehicle and frightened children inside. Later in Wittenberg, deputies received complaints about loud fireworks, a backyard fire, and a late-night party.
Other calls included reckless driving complaints in the Mattoon area, a deer crash along Highway 29, a vehicle lockout near Wilson Lake, and an attempt to locate an elderly woman who had not returned home as expected.
The Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department also handled two incidents, including a report of a damaged ATV left at the Pow Wow grounds and a pedestrian dressed in dark clothing walking along County Highway A late at night.
