New London Deciding On Plans for New Sledding Hill at Hatten Park

NEW LONDON, WI – City officials in New London are taking the next steps toward building a new sledding hill, with Hatten Park emerging as the preferred location.
The Parks and Recreation Committee recently reviewed several potential sites and determined Hatten Park offers the best overall option. However, because of the park’s historic designation, additional approval will be required before any construction can begin.
Parks Director Ginger Sowle has been directed to contact the National Historical Society to determine whether the project can move forward within those guidelines.
The need for a new sledding hill comes as the city prepares to remove the current hill to make way for a future wastewater treatment facility. Officials say the relocation presents an opportunity to improve the design, focusing on safety and creating a more enjoyable winter recreation space for residents.
If approved, the project would ensure New London continues to offer a dedicated sledding area while upgrading one of its popular seasonal amenities.
