SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano Common Council moved swiftly through its annual reorganization, completing the process in just 15 minutes with minimal changes to leadership and committee assignments.
Alderman Kevin Barkow was unanimously re-elected as council president, with no other nominations brought forward. The vote signals continued confidence in Barkow’s leadership as the council heads into another term.
Barkow also recommended keeping most committee and board assignments unchanged, a proposal that was largely supported by the council. Only a handful of minor adjustments were approved, primarily affecting representation on several local organizations.
Those updates include new council representation on groups such as the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, the Shawano County Economic Progress Board, and various local arts organizations, ensuring continued collaboration between the city and community partners.
In addition to leadership decisions, several city officials were formally sworn in for new two-year terms. Bruce Milavitz, along with aldermen Jim Hauer, Jack Young, and John Hoeffs, all begin new terms after running unopposed in the most recent election.
