FRIDAY
#12 Amherst 6, #18 Westfield 3
Amherst used a big third inning and timely hitting down the stretch to defeat Westfield 6-3 on Friday afternoon, improving their strong early-season form while handing the Pioneers another tough conference loss.
Westfield struck first in the second inning to grab an early 1-0 lead, but Amherst quickly answered in the bottom half to even the score at 1-1. From there, the Falcons seized control in the third inning, breaking the game open with a four-run frame that shifted momentum firmly in their favor.
The Pioneers kept battling and trimmed into the deficit with runs in the fourth and sixth innings, but Amherst answered each time to maintain separation and close out the win.
Offensively, Amherst was led by Michael Glodowski, who delivered a strong 2-for-2 performance at the plate, reaching base consistently and sparking the Falcons’ offense throughout the game. Wyatt Beaudoin also played a key role, driving in a run while adding a solid two-way impact on the mound.
On the pitching side, Beaudoin was effective in limiting Westfield’s offense, striking out four and keeping the Pioneers from generating any sustained rallies after the third inning surge.
