NEW LONDON, WI – The New London Community Fund is already making a meaningful impact, awarding $10,000 in grants during its first-ever funding cycle to support projects across the community.
The fund, created by local residents, is designed as a permanent endowment to provide long-term support for initiatives that improve quality of life in New London. Officials say the goal is to create a lasting source of community investment that will continue to grow and benefit residents for generations.
Grant funding is supporting a wide range of local projects. The City of New London received multiple grants, including $1,500 for a new lifeguard chair at the New London Aquatic Center, $1,000 for an Eagle Scout archery range project, and $600 for solar lighting on navigational buoys along the Wolf River.
Additional funding is helping several community organizations. Friends of Mosquito Hill received $1,800 for a pond platform replacement at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, while New London Public Schools were awarded $1,800 for the Lincoln Elementary “Lincoln Lookout” playground project. The Washington Center Community Cupboard also received $1,800 to support the purchase of perishable food, and the Wolf River Art League was awarded $1,500 for improvements to its Sculpture Trail landscaping.
The initial round of funding was made possible through support from the U.S. Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation, helping launch the fund’s grantmaking efforts. Since its creation, the fund has grown to nearly $292,000, with a long-term goal of reaching $350,000.
Community leaders say the fund acts like a shared investment in New London’s future, and they are encouraging residents to contribute. They note that even small donations can help expand opportunities for future projects and continue strengthening the community for years to come.
