SHAWANO, WI – Preparation and engagement were key as students at Olga Brener Elementary put their knowledge to the test during this year’s Knowledge-A-Thon.
Principal Matt Peterson says students in third through fifth grade spent time getting ready by studying a set of 100 grade-level questions covering subjects like math, English language arts, technology, and allied arts including music, art, and physical education. On the day of the event, high school students helped quiz participants, adding an extra level of excitement and involvement across grade levels.
Peterson says the effort paid off, with 88 students achieving perfect scores. Students who answered questions correctly throughout the day were also entered into prize drawings, keeping engagement high from start to finish.
As a reward for their hard work, about 100 students earned a trip to Extreme Air, while others received incentives like extra recess, pizza parties, and even a bowling outing.
Peterson says the event continues to be a fun and rewarding way to encourage learning while celebrating student achievement.
