SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano County Agriculture and Extension Committee approved a plan to remove 27 ash trees from the Shawano County Fairgrounds, and that work was done this week.
The trees were identified as being impacted by Emerald Ash Bore (EAB) and needed to be removed for safety.
Committee members voted to award a $20,500 contract to Kopitzke Logging, which is handling the project of cutting down the trees, grinding the stumps, and removing all debris. The project is aimed at maintaining the safety and condition of the fairgrounds.
The work will be funded through the county’s designated maintenance account, supported by rental income from the county farm. Officials say new trees could be planted after the 2026 Shawano County Fair, with potential grant funding options to be explored.
