Local Law Enforcement Activity – April 16
SHAWANO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office responded to about 40 incidents across the county Thursday, ranging from 911 calls and crashes to animal complaints, road issues and drug arrests.
Deputies handled several 911 calls throughout the day and overnight, including abandoned or open-line calls in Bonduel, Navarino, Bowler and other parts of the county.
One of the morning’s early incidents included a reckless driving report on Highway 29 near mile marker 231. Deputies also responded to a road closure near Shawano Avenue and Edwards Street by the dam after a large washout created a dangerous hole along the shoulder.
Traffic and roadway issues continued through the day. Deputies dealt with a traffic hazard on County Road N in the Birnamwood area after a farm truck blocked the roadway while pumping manure without a flag person. Two separate crashes were reported later in the afternoon, including one at Highway 22 and Rose Brook Road and another at Highway 45 and Bluebird Road.
Animal calls kept deputies busy as well. A delivery driver was bitten by a dog in the Bonduel area, another report involved a loose and aggressive dog near Ho-Chunk Road in Wittenberg, and a second dog-bite incident was reported later in the afternoon. Deputies also handled a barking dog complaint in Marion.
Several calls involved public safety and welfare concerns. Deputies conducted a welfare check in the Pulaski area after a caregiver reported suicidal comments. Deputies also assisted fire crews near Maple Road and Silver Creek Road and helped with a medical alarm in Bowler where a man reported his throat was closing.
Other calls included a vehicle lockout in Bonduel, a UTV repossession in Shawano, a property damage complaint involving water pumped into a ditch that damaged a roadway near Pulaski, a trespassing complaint in Aniwa, and suspicious activity reported in Birnamwood.
Drug activity led to multiple incidents in the evening. Deputies located drug paraphernalia during one call and later made an arrest following a traffic stop that resulted in suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a felony bail-jumping charge.
The evening ended with additional 911 calls, disturbance reports in Bowler and Gresham, and an OWI arrest near North Genesee Street and Westgor Avenue in the Village of Wittenberg.
SHAWANO POLICE
Shawano Police handled a busy Thursday with calls ranging from noise complaints and theft to welfare checks, alarms, and suspicious activity.
Officers began the overnight hours responding to a noise complaint at Sturgeon Park and a theft report involving a stolen backpack. Another late-night noise complaint followed on East Maurer Street where officers addressed a loud party.
Around 2:30 a.m., police investigated suspicious activity on South Lincoln Street after a resident reported someone sitting on their front porch wearing a black hoodie. Officers also responded to a disturbance on South Smalley Street during the early morning hours.
As the day began, officers handled a stray animal report near Franklin Park involving a loose German Shepherd seen near a bus stop. Police also assisted with a child-custody exchange standby at Safe Haven and checked an open door at Smalley Park.
Later in the morning, officers took a found-property report at the Crawford Center and assisted law enforcement with a reckless driving complaint on Highway 29. Police were also called to Walmart for an animal problem involving an injured raccoon in the parking lot and responded to a reckless driving complaint on East Green Bay Street.
A commercial duress alarm at Covantage Credit Union prompted a response from multiple officers late in the morning.
During the afternoon, officers conducted welfare checks at Charlie’s County Market and on East Lieg Avenue. Police also assisted with a vehicle repossession on East Green Bay Street and responded to a traffic hazard at South Main and East Center Streets involving a vehicle with non-working brake lights.
Evening calls included a harassment complaint between a tenant and landlord, an illegal burning complaint on South Washington Street, and found property reported near County Highway B and South Main Street.
Late Thursday night, officers assisted with a vehicle lockout at Walmart and provided a standby while a vehicle owner retrieved their car from an East Richmond Street apartment. Early Friday morning, officers investigated another suspicious activity report after a resident reported someone attempting to enter a home on South Smalley Street.
CLINTONVILLE POLICE
Clintonville Police handled a steady mix of patrol, traffic enforcement and public safety calls Thursday.
Officers conducted extra patrols overnight and early in the morning on Commercial Avenue and Anne Street, along with school extra patrol near Green Tree Road.
Police assisted with a storm-related call in the city early in the day and later provided mutual aid to another agency near Highway 45 and Blueberry Road.
Traffic enforcement included several stops throughout the day, including on North Lyons Street, at Main and 5th Streets, and later near Highway 156 and Klemp Road.
Officers also handled multiple citizen assist calls on Anne Street and Brix Street, along with an agency assist on Harriet Street.
Medical calls kept officers busy as well, assisting ambulance crews on Wilson Street and later on Industrial Avenue.
In the evening hours, police investigated suspicious activity near Bennett Street and West Second Street, as well as on Memorial Circle. Officers also responded to a harassment complaint on 16th Street and conducted a welfare check on Harriet Street.
The day wrapped up with a 911 call on South Main Street as Clintonville Police continued routine patrols and public safety response throughout the community.
