SHIOCTON, WI- Residents of the Village of Shiocton are being urged to leave immediately as rising floodwaters from the Wolf River threaten the community.
The village president has issued a mandatory evacuation order for everyone within village limits. The order requires residents to evacuate by 3 p.m. as conditions continue to worsen.
“The water is rising fast and is only expected to get worse in the next couple of days,” said Laurie Sweeney, Village Clerk of Shiocton.
Officials warned that emergency responders may not be able to reach those who stay behind. The evacuation notice states plainly: “If you do not evacuate we will likely not be able to assist you.”
To support displaced residents, the American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter at the Black Creek Community Center, located at 507 S. Maple Street in Black Creek.
Local leaders continue to monitor river levels and are urging residents to leave as soon as possible and seek shelter in safe areas.
