OCONTO COUNTY, WI – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has unveiled a new project website outlining proposed improvements to Highway 22 in Oconto County and is inviting the public to weigh in.
The project would span just over four miles, stretching from East Highland Drive in Oconto Falls east to near U.S. Highway 141. According to WisDOT, the proposed work includes resurfacing the existing roadway to address deterioration and extend pavement life. Plans also call for widening paved shoulders to better accommodate bicyclists, along with updating pavement markings and maintaining rumble strips to enhance safety.
Additional improvements may include minor drainage work to support stormwater flow and preserve roadway conditions.
Construction is currently anticipated for 2030, though officials say the timeline could be advanced to 2029 depending on funding and scheduling. During construction, Highway 22 is expected to remain open to traffic using flagging operations.
WisDOT is encouraging residents, businesses, and motorists who travel the corridor to review project details and submit public comments through the online portal as part of the planning process.
