SHIOCTON, WI – The Shiocton Chiefs girls wrestling program may still be young, but it’s already building momentum in a big way this season. Head Coach Dominic Gunderson says the growth has been remarkable, with the team jumping from just four athletes a year ago to 11 wrestlers this winter.
Gunderson credits the group’s work ethic and willingness to learn, especially with many of the athletes still new to the sport. He says wrestling isn’t easy to pick up, but the Chiefs’ girls continue to improve week after week, finding ways to get better and compete at a higher level. The focus now is on keeping the team healthy and ready as conference competition approaches, followed by the postseason tournament series.
Several wrestlers are already turning heads. Freshman Brynn Johnson is ranked 15th in the girls’ 100-pound weight class, while sophomore Cally Presteen sits 11th in the 120-pound division.
Freshman Shealyn Anday sits 15th in the 165-pund division as well. Their success, along with contributions from the rest of the roster, is helping make this a standout season for the Chiefs.
