SHAWANO, WI – City Clerk Lesley Nemetz is reminding residents of the importance of prompt snow removal following winter storms. Nemetz says sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours of a snowfall to help keep walkways safe and accessible for pedestrians.
She also urges residents to remain alert for hazardous conditions such as blowing snow, ice, and freezing rain, which can quickly make sidewalks and roads slippery. Nemetz says changing weather conditions can cause refreezing even after snow has been cleared.
To help residents combat icy conditions, Nemetz says the city offers a helpful resource during the winter months. Free salt-sand piles are available for residential use at several locations throughout the community.
Those salt-sand piles are located behind the Sheriff’s Office, at Sturgeon Park, and at Memorial Park. Nemetz encourages residents to take advantage of the resource to improve traction and help keep sidewalks and driveways safe during winter weather.
