BONDUEL, WI- A water main break forced the closure of a portion of Legion Street near the Bonduel Post Office Wednesday.
“There was more than one break,” Municipal Operations Director Jesse Rankin said. “There was two breaks in the main and one service lateral that was snapped due to the shifting pipe and the cold in the ground.”
He added that the infrastructure was old and was installed in the 1970’s.
“We had about six houses and the post office without water for the better part of the day.”
As of 3:30pm, the two main breaks were fixed. Rankin said the weather conditions and time of year led to more work.
“We have about three feet of frost in the ground so we have to chisel through that first,” he said. “The water main is about 15 feet below the ground.”
Rankin said the main break occurred around 3:00am, but they did not discover it until about 7:00am.
Legion Street is closed to through traffic between Washington Street and the Post Office while crews work to repair the break. The closure will remain in place until further notice.
Residents and businesses in the immediate area may experience temporary water outages or reduced water pressure during repair efforts.
