BOWLER, WI- The Stockbridge-Munsee Community Tribal Council is advising tribal members to carry proper identification following reports that Native Americans in other parts of the country have been questioned or detained during federal immigration enforcement actions. Tribal leaders say they are working with state and federal partners to address the issue and provide support for members, especially those living off the reservation. Members are encouraged to carry tribal, state, or federal IDs, and a birth certificate if available. If approached by authorities, tribal officials recommend remaining calm, cooperative, and respectful. The Tribe is prepared to confirm membership or direct descendancy and provide documentation if requested.
