SHAWANO, WI – Safe Haven is reporting a noticeable rise in demand for its services in 2025, highlighting continued challenges faced by individuals and families seeking safety and stability. Executive Director Mindy Lohff says the shelter served 45 adults and 54 children over the past year.
Lohff says the numbers underscore how critical Safe Haven’s role remains in the community. In addition to serving more people, the shelter also experienced longer stays, resulting in nearly 1,000 additional shelter nights compared to the previous year.
“All the clients that stay in our shelter are actively fleeing domestic abuse or sexual violence,” Lohff said. She emphasized that Safe Haven serves individuals in immediate danger, providing a secure place during a critical time in their lives.
Lohff also stressed that Safe Haven’s mission extends beyond simply offering a place to sleep. The organization focuses on safety planning, outreach, advocacy, and helping survivors take meaningful steps toward independence and a life free from violence.
She reminds the community that Safe Haven is not a homeless shelter, but a specialized resource dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.
