GREEN BAY, WI- The Shawano Boys Basketball team held of a comeback attempt by Green Bay West and ended a four gaming losing streak with a 76-60 win on Friday.
“Obviously, the last four games have not gone the way we wanted, but we had a good week of practice to get ready for this one,” Coach Dave Ambrosius said.
Shawano jumped out to an early lead and led 39-23 at the half. The Hawks were up by 20 with 4 minutes to go, but turnovers and missed shots gave the Wildcats a chance to battle back with 10 points in the last two minutes.
“We just knew that we had to pick up the competitiveness, and we knew it had to change,” said Anderson Schmidt.
Will Verkuilen led the Hawks with 30 points. “We just keep pushing each other and getting better at practice for games like this,” he said after the game.
Jack Nordin scored 24 in support. The Hawks used 8 three point shots to jump out to the early lead.
Captain Cooper Boucher said it all comes down to mindset. “I feel we have to have a positive attitude and bring that energy to practice.”
The Hawks will get underway with the second half of their conference schedule next week.
