HORTONVILLE, WI – Hortonville American Legion Post 55 Commander Robert Ziegert has been named Veteran of the Year by the Fox Valley Veterans Council, an honor recognizing outstanding service to veterans and the community. The award was announced during the council’s December meeting and highlights a veteran’s contributions over the past year.
Ziegert, who also serves as chair of Post 55’s building committee, said he was surprised by the recognition and unaware he had been selected for the award. Fellow veterans and community leaders say the honor reflects his continued dedication to supporting veterans and strengthening local programs in Hortonville.
The Fox Valley Veterans Council is a nonprofit organization made up of more than 35 member groups across the region. The council works to assist veterans and their families who are facing financial hardship, housing challenges, and other critical needs.
In addition to his leadership role with Hortonville American Legion Post 55, Ziegert remains focused on efforts to establish a new community center in Hortonville. Organizers say the center would serve as a gathering place for veterans and the wider community.
