SHAWANO, WI – Shawano city officials are taking a closer look at two former church properties as potential locations for a future public library. Consultants working on the city’s master plan recently met with the library board to discuss the options, which include the former Peace United Church of Christ and First Presbyterian Church, both now on the market as the congregations merge into the newly formed Fellowship Church of Shawano.
Peace Church is listed at $785,000 and First Presbyterian at $750,000, with each building offering about 14,000 square feet of space. However, the city’s long-term library plan calls for more than 30,000 square feet, meaning either site would require substantial renovations and additions to meet projected space needs.
City leaders say tours of both properties will be scheduled in the coming weeks as they continue evaluating whether one of the buildings, or another option entirely, could serve as the future home of the Shawano Public Library.
