MANAWA, WI – Local leaders from the City of Manawa and the Town of Little Wolf met with Governor Tony Evers earlier this month to discuss next steps in rebuilding the Manawa dam, which failed after severe flooding in July 2024. The community had previously requested $8.4 million in the 2026 state budget to construct a new spillway, but learned this summer that the project did not receive state funding.
Former Manawa mayors David Sarna and John Smith, traveled to Madison to update the governor on ongoing recovery efforts. The group outlined the city’s plan to restore the Little Wolf River and the Manawa Mill Pond, emphasizing the local commitment to repairing the dam and rebuilding the surrounding area.
Gov. Evers offered suggestions and guidance on how the state and legislators may be able to assist as the community continues pursuing restoration and funding options.
As a gesture of appreciation, local leaders presented Governor Evers with a Manawa Wolves shirt during the visit.
