WAUPACA, WI- The community is mourning the loss of longtime Circuit Court Judge Raymond Huber, who passed away Friday from injuries sustained in a recent fall. Judge Huber, 68, was a respected and steady presence in the Waupaca County Courthouse for more than two decades, earning a reputation for fairness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Huber was first elected to the bench in 2000 and went on to serve the county for nearly 25 years. During that time, he presided over thousands of cases, mentored young attorneys, and became a trusted figure in the local and regional legal community. Colleagues often described him as level-headed, thoughtful, and deeply dedicated to public service.
Beyond his work in the courtroom, Huber was known as a committed family man. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and other close family members who are now receiving an outpouring of condolences from across the county and state.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Clintonville, where friends, colleagues, and community members will gather to honor his life and legacy. A Visitation takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday until the time of services.
With his passing, the process now begins to fill the vacancy on the Waupaca County bench. Under Wisconsin law, Governor Tony Evers is responsible for appointing a judge to serve the remainder of Huber’s current term. Details on the appointment timeline have not yet been announced, but county officials expect the selection process to move forward in the coming weeks.
Judge Huber’s death marks a significant loss for Waupaca County, where his decades of service have left a lasting impact on both the legal system and the broader community he served.
