SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – Shawano County deputies spent much of Saturday responding to a series of weather-related crashes as early winter conditions created slick and unpredictable roads across the region. According to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, deputies handled eight crash or traffic-accident calls throughout the day.
The incidents included an early-morning injury crash on Highway 22 near Korth Road by Cecil, a rollover crash around midday at Maple Avenue and Hazel Drive in Shawano, and a late-night “severe car crash alert” in the Lake Drive and Park Avenue area on the city’s east side. Several other reports involved vehicles sliding into ditches or going off the road as snow and icy patches made travel hazardous.
Deputies also assisted a towing company with an occupied pickup that slid into a ditch in frigid conditions, and they responded to a separate disabled-vehicle call after a tire came off a vehicle following recent repairs, leaving it stuck in traffic.
Animal-related calls increased as well, including multiple deer strikes and a report of a deer still alive along County Q near Highway 29 after being hit by a vehicle.
