SHAWANO, WI – The annual Buckle Up for Bucks campaign is underway again in the Shawano area, and organizer Brian Grieves of Grieves Chiropractic says the effort is designed to promote safety in a positive, encouraging way.
Instead of issuing warnings during holiday travel week, local law enforcement will reward drivers spotted wearing their seatbelts with $10 in cash and a free T-shirt.
Greaves says the broader mission of the campaign is to support area law enforcement by reinforcing safe habits rather than punishing drivers.
He notes that the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office issued more than 400 seatbelt citations last year, and in six of the eight serious crashes, those involved were not wearing seatbelts. Grieves adds that whether you’re taking a short trip across town or driving several hours for the holidays, buckling up is one of the easiest and most effective ways to save lives.
