SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Hawks are off to a strong start, winning their first two games of the season with wins over Medford and Pulaski.
SHAWANO 51, MEDFORD 45 (Tuesday November 18)
Shawano used strong support play to top Medford in the teams season opener Tuesday. Senior Leah Nordin led the Hawks with 23 points, but it was a 13-point night from Jadyn Brown and a 7-point night from Maci Beyer that propelled the Hawks. Shawano led 28-24 at halftime and got into a physical contest with very few fouls. The Raiders responded to Nordin’s night with a 23-point game from Taylor Klingbeil, but only had four players that scored. The Raiders shot 31 percent from the field, while the Hawks shot 41 percent. Anna Dreier and Creden Weisnicht both had four points for Shawano.
SHAWANO 60, PULASKI 51 (Thursday November 20)
Shawano was able to balance their lineup and get through major foul trouble to top Pulaski 60-51. The Hawks led throughout most of the game, which was key since they ended up in severe foul trouble in the second half. Creden Weisnicht fouled out while Maci Beyer, Jadyn Brown, and Leah Nordin all had four fouls and Anna Dreier with three. Nordin was unstoppable with 39 of the teams points, including 5 three-point shots and 14 of 16 free throws. Pulaski made a run late second half with Shawano starters having to sit due to fouls, but the Hawks were able to hold on. Olivia Sprangers had 18 points and Freshman Josey Shaw had 17 to lead Pulaski.
