NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – With Wisconsin’s gun deer season just days away, state wildlife officials are reminding hunters to stay aware of both safety requirements and new management zone boundaries that could affect where they hunt this year.
DNR Warden Clark Delzer says bow hunters can continue to be in the woods during the gun season, but they must follow the same visibility rules as firearm hunters. “Bow hunters can definitely be out there. The one thing is you gotta make sure that you’re still wearing blaze orange. Blaze orange is required during any state firearm season,” Delzer said.
Along with safety reminders, the DNR is also alerting hunters to important changes to deer management zones across northern and central Wisconsin. Wildlife Expert Jackie Christopher says those updates shift long-standing boundaries that many hunters rely on. “One big thing with the zone changes, not only did the northern forest zones move from county boundaries back to road boundaries, they also moved the boundary line between northern forest and central farmland,” she said. Christopher also noted that the zone change affects Highway 64 and affects hunters across Southern Lincoln County and Southern Langlade County.
Hunters are encouraged to check the latest maps on the DNR website to make sure they know which regulations apply to the area they plan to hunt.
