NEW LONDON, WI – The New London School Board has approved its 2025–26 budget, which includes a slight increase to the district’s mill rate—from $5.33 to $5.57 per $1,000 of assessed property value. District leaders say the change is driven primarily by a substantial decrease in state equalization aid, with New London receiving more than $770,000 less than it did last year.
Business Services Director Joe Marquardt told board members that rising property values across the district and an increase in the state’s revenue limit authority will help soften the financial impact. Even so, he cautioned that most taxpayers should expect to see higher bills this year due to the reduced state funding and the district’s required contribution to the private school voucher program.
Despite the increase, Marquardt noted that New London continues to maintain one of the lower mill rates in the region, remaining well below the statewide average of $7.09.
The approved budget for all funds totals just over $38.3 million and will guide district operations for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
