Kwik Trip stores across Wisconsin are saying goodbye to pennies, at least when it comes to giving change. The retailer has adopted a new policy following a nationwide penny shortage after the U.S. Treasury stopped minting new coins earlier this year. Under the change, cash transactions will now be rounded to the nearest nickel, with totals ending in one to four cents rounded down and six to nine cents rounded up. Kwik Trip will still accept pennies as payment, but they’ll no longer appear in your change. Digital and card transactions will continue to calculate totals exactly to the cent.
