SHAWANO, WI – With winter weather on the way, Craig from Auto Select in Shawano is reminding drivers that vehicle preparation goes far beyond simply checking tire pressure. One key step, he says, is making sure your antifreeze is set to the proper freeze point, especially for anyone who recently moved from a warmer climate. “Anybody that moves from further south and comes up this way, sometimes that’s not the case,” Craig explained.
Cold temperatures can cause key parts of a vehicle to freeze or seize together, leading to potentially costly repairs if preventive maintenance is overlooked. Craig also encourages drivers to check the smaller details that make a big difference once snow begins to fall, including ensuring that wiper blades are in good condition.
“With it being dark from when you wake up to when you leave work and go home, you want to make sure your wipers are in shape and can clear snow so you’re able to see,” he said. Craig adds that warming up your engine each morning can help fluids circulate properly and keep the car running smoothly throughout Wisconsin’s frigid months.
