NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – With several hunting seasons winding down, the Wisconsin DNR is reminding hunters and residents in Shawano County to follow state baiting, feeding, and equipment laws.
DNR Warden Mark Schraufnagel says Shawano County remains under a baiting and feeding ban, meaning hunters cannot use mineral blocks, salt, or any other attractants to lure wildlife. “Make sure you don’t have anything like that out there in the woods,” Schraufnagel said, emphasizing that such materials are prohibited under state law.
He also reminds hunters that as seasons come to a close, all equipment left on state lands, such as blinds or stands, must be removed at the end of hunting hours. The only exception is for game cameras, which may remain in place if properly labeled with a customer ID number.
Additionally, blinds placed on public lands for the upcoming deer season must be clearly marked with blaze orange to ensure visibility and safety for all hunters.
